What drew you to interfaith work and Building Bridges Burnley specifically?
I was initially invited to one of the events in the park and was amazed to see different people from across Burnley coming together for a common purpose. I really wanted to be part of it, and that's when I started getting involved. It was wonderful to see everybody from different backgrounds and ages all coming together, having fun, and finding the things they have in common rather than focusing on what makes them different.
Can you share a moment when you realised the importance of Building Bridges between Communities in Burnley?
As I mentioned, I was invited to one of the events in the park. Burnley has a history where we experienced significant problems and divisions, and when I attended these events, I witnessed the excellent work that the existing trustees from Building Bridges were doing. I could see they had built close relationships and were making a real impact on the lives of different people across Burnley. I realised this work was absolutely vital to ensure we could build a positive home for everybody in Burnley. Since I work in Burnley, I wanted to be part of that mission.
What's your personal connection to Burnley and its diverse communities?
I'm a GP and have been practicing in Burnley for 21 years. I live locally, so Burnley has truly become my second home.
